I have spent hours trying to get this to work, withour success. I work away from home in the week and have a rented flat where I wanted to use broadband, with my netbook.

Firstly, be aware this router comes with all the instructions on a CD. There is nothing on paper. If you have a netbook without a CD drive, and you have no current net connection, there is NO WAY of getting instructions! So I took the router, and my netbook, home at the weekend, where I disconnected my home router (Netgear, got it working in 5 minutes when I bought that, should have got another one!). Couldn’t get the Linksys working, but anyhow, loaded the set up prog onto my netbook using my home broadband, so I could try to get the router going in the flat.

I spent hours! I looked up FAQs on the web site (no use), I contacted my broadband supplier, I got an IT-savvy colleague from work to bring his laptop round and he couldn’t get it working either. He thought the cable to connect the router to the PC was faulty, but anyway, managed to get the router set up using wireless, checked the settings with my broadband supplier, but no joy. All this time with no Internet connection.

Finally sent it back to Logsol, sent it on a Sat and followed up on Thursday, told they would test it ‘in due course.’ How’s that for customer service?

If I’d bought it from the High St I could have taken it in and they’d have given me a new one. And now that’s just what I’m going to do! I’m going to buy a Netgear modem from a good old ordinary shop.

I have been looking for a modem router for quite a while that looks good, has good signal strength & has parental security software… I have finally found it!! It was easy to set up with the enclosed cd though I would make a note of the different settings your old router has as it will be a fresh install but on a couple of things I didn’t know the settings but just went with what it suggested and it worked fine! I only have the standard 802g signal but have no need for faster speeds or the need to spend yet more money on something I don’t need, the signal is on par with my older netgear if a little better.

I have set up a network linked to 3 other laptops in the household via my pc movie back up drive via an Asus media player, this transfers & handles multitasking better than the old trusty netgear so no lag or hesitation while watching a movie.

Now with the icing & the cherry on the top.. it comes with excellent parental software that I admit you have to pay a little more for but once seeing what it could do even I was very happy to spend it. It is called network Magic & I finally don’t have to keep trying to remember to turn the wireless off so our eldest doesn’t spend all night on line & then not be able to use my laptop once it’s turned off. I have tried to use the old netgear router settings but although I’m pretty pc savvy I just gave up.. even tried the new netgear router with parental controls.. hmm not impressed & complicated to set up with the DNS link… again isn’t new software/tech supposed to get simpler the more it evolves?

You can control when the internet goes off with an in depth schedule for individual laptops or pc’s or even media devices & can receive full reports on what the person has looked at, how long they were on it etc.

Very please pc user & parent.

    Jeff

I passed this on to a young friend whose router had just broken down – and I’m afraid I didn’t do him any favours.

The system reported itself to be up and running without faults when it palpably wasn’t and all efforts to sort the problem failed.

He’s got someone who is a networking expert coming to sort it out hopefully, but be warned, this equipment is not straightforward at all.

This router was easy to set up using the wizard software on the CD provided, but it looks as though it would also be straightforward to set it up through its web interface if you weren’t using a Windows or Mac machine. The wireless signal seems stronger than my previous router from the same manufacturer and doesn’t seem to have a problem connecting 4 devices at once. A 7-day trial is also included of Network Magic software; this is similarly easy to set up, and once installed on more than one computer allows for easy sharing of files and printers. I initially encountered a firewall problem when setting this up and was referred to the Network Magic online support, which wasn’t particularly helpful. Fortunately, the problem was easily overcome. After the trial, the file and printer sharing features are disabled, and you’re left with just basic software to manage the router. The box contains the router and power adaptor, one phone filter, one phone cable and one DSL cable.

Received after 3 days. Disk would only open in Windows, but not in Linux (PCLOS GNOME 2010) – I needed it for the default login information. Downloaded a pdf userguide from the internet ( 20091111-114812-WAG120N-160Nv2-320N-EMEA_UG_C-WEB.pdf ). Default login is ‘admin’ and pw ‘admin’ although this didn’t work at first – I needed to reset the box. Setup in Firefox was straightforward except for setting it for WiFi channel 13. This is possible with a bit of working around. The box runs fairly cool so I’m tempted to leave it running 24/7. My isp is Pipex (TalkTalk) – had no problems with that connection. Note the box can be mounted on a wall using the screw slots provided.

I give only 3 stars for the setup but 5 stars for the Amazon provision.
