Well I plugged it in and all seemed good in 5GHZ mode but in 2.4GHZ the speed kept dropping to 5mps, not good in wireless N mode, so its back in the box and I have my Netgear router back, that seems to have a much better range, so it was a waste of money for me
I went with the WRT610n for its spec and some of the reviews that were out, I dropped my netgear router for the linksys very easy to setup took less than 10 minutes.
thats when my problems started, I loose video streams after a couple of minutes and even my internet speed drops by 70% after a day or two, I have trawled the support pages (not very good) and all I see is loads of problems for this model, there answer to every thing is firmware update it, which is all well and good but they havent done a update in over a year, so thats not very helpful.
all in all I am ditching this very very expensive router and going back to my netgear, at least I can browse the internet at my stated 10mb speed limit and not at the 3-4mb that linksys seem to think is acceptable.

Pleased with the Cisco WRT610N, after a rocky start. RTFM(‘s).
I bought this item to work with a Vigor 120 Modem. The Cisco could not ‘find’ the modem/internet with all its so called clever MAGIC fandango software, but it would find everything else on the network. You have to nail the Cisco down and i)tell it not to auto select (DCHP) and ii) select the appropriate protocol for the Vigor 120. The Cisco is very good, but READ THE FM FOR BOTH items if you buy the pair. The Linksys comess with 7days full usage of a set-up front end software package that they would like you to buy. If you set it up within the 7 days, you do not need to buy the software, the basic software you get left with is just fine. Have not tried the 5Gig wireless yet…
I bought the WRT610N partly because it had a facility to add a storage device to the router. I had wanted to hold things like iTunes, photos in common so I could use them from both computers, but only needed to update one file.
Router does not support either of my external hard drives, but the linksys support talked me through setting it up (they were fine). However it disconnects each time I switch off a computer& its slow to download from.
Router didn’t work properly. Initial support (on-line chat) seemed reasonable, if slow, until they had diagnosed it was faulty: then it was a nightmare. They wouldn’t deal with this on-line (chat or e-mail) only by phone to an 0871 number. Seems odd they want to charge customers a premium to return a faulty product, but worse – much worse. Line dropped almost every time I called it (always after several minutes) – and when I did eventually get through they wouldn’t replace the item as there was no record of the agreed fault – then after several other calls and “chats” (and more dropped calls – all costing money) they wouldn’t replace unless I sent it back at my cost: for an agreed faulty item.
Returned to Amazon instead and bought another make.
I wouldn’t buy another Linksys / Cisco Router again & I recommend you don’t buy this item.
