SEO FAQ & Answers

  1. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the term used to describe the specific changes made to a website and additional work on other sites linking to it, all designed to bring the site to the attention of the people for which it is designed.
  2. Almost everyone who has a website or blog will need to do some level of SEO. If the purpose of your site is to generate leads, attract customers, or sell products then you will definitely need some SEO work done on your site.  Even if your site is there simply to provide free information then some SEO work may be needed just to make sure the site’s intended audience can find it.
  3. Ideally your SEO strategy should be worked out in advance and implemented as you build your site (or as it’s built for you), but for many who have not done so the SEO work is done retrospectively.  It’s common for small businesses to have a website built and then to publicise it to existing customers.  They might then leave it to conventional marketing techniques (URL added to print adverts, stationery etc.) to bring it to the attention of new customers.  Good quality search engine optimisation will provide the best chance of your site being found by new customers who will be searching online for the products, services and information your site provides.  The sooner it’s done the better as it can take weeks or months for some changes to take effect.
  4. The world wide web grows larger by the minute as new sites are built and added to it.  Unless your site is unique you will be competing against other sites for the same audience.  When users search online it is the sites that appear near the top of page one of the search results that obtain the vast majority of the traffic.  If your site is to appear at or near the top then your site will need SEO work, and if you are to maintain your lead against your competitors you will need monitor your site and make further SEO changes as time goes on.
  5. Start with an SEO analysis of your current site, your business, and your intended audience or market.  Armed with this knowledge you’ll be able to work out an SEO strategy which will probably be a combination of immediate changes coupled with medium to long term changes.  If this all sounds too daunting or you simply don’t have the time to learn about it (let alone do it all) then talk to us.  This is the service we offer. We’ll take care of it while you concentrate on doing what you do best; looking after your customers and running your business.
  6. Not at all.  As this quote from Inside Search: the official Google Search blog shows, Google is all in favour of SEO (as long as it’s done properly and for the benefit of site visitors and users).“Google has said before that search engine optimization, or SEO, can be positive and constructive—and we’re not the only ones. Effective search engine optimization can make a site more crawlable and make individual pages more accessible and easier to find. Search engine optimization includes things as simple as keyword research to ensure that the right words are on the page, not just industry jargon that normal people will never type.”
